Busy Busy Busy

It has been a whirlwind these past few weeks at The Painted Cookie! Posts below are a sampling of all the designs that have been going out this season. Wishing all of our followers a very Blessed Holiday and look forward to new designs for 2012!

"Believe" Ornament

Our most popular favor this season was our "Believe" Ornament.

Other versions were used as personalized party favors:

Christmas Doves

I just love the simplicity of these Christmas doves. The ornament was a gift to go with this order.

Santa's Sleigh

A fun, simple design for a Christmas Sleigh. Snow piped with a #16 star tip was dusted with Pearl Luster Dust and the rail is painted with Gold Luster Dust.

Holiday Champagne

Finally had a chance to use this champagne cutter that we have had for a couple of years. Painted foil and label border with gold luster dust with lemon vodka. Detailed with holly and berries to celebrate this holiday wedding.

Santa Penguins

A very popular cutter that I designed with last year. They are so much fun to do!

Classic Car Birthday

Classic Caddies to celebrate a 70th birthday. Congrats Chuck!

Hanukkah Dreidels

Dreidels painted with Silver Luster Dust and detailed in Royal Blue.

Silver-Dusted Snowflakes

Snowflake cookies iced in light gray and then dry-brushed with NuSilver Luster Dust and finished with light blue details.

My first Quinceanera

I received my first Quinceanera order. This is a celebration for a Spanish girl's 15th birthday. I have had this cutter from Coppergifts for years and hadn't used it yet, but this was the perfect occasion! The birthday girl selected her school colors of white, Navy & Cornflower blue with a request of "not too frilly" of a design. We are happy to say Sophie was very pleased with her cookie design!

Airplane Wedding Favors

Among the Thanksgiving rush of cookies, I had been designing with a bride coming up to CT for an "after" celebration of her wedding the Friday after Thanksgiving. Going back and forth on colors and ribbon this design was approved and executed! Congrats to Sue & Chuck on their Wedding celebration!

Thanksgiving Placecard Cookies

My last new Thanksgiving design for 2011 is using's Plaque cutter. I took a mini turkey cutter and made an impression before baking. I outlined in Chocolate Brown and did the same for the turkey and filled in. While wet I added the red and gold accents. Once dried, flooded with ivory which made a nice background for personalizing.

Thanksgiving Amazing Cupcakes

It has been a whirlwind around here since the week long power outages on the late October snow storm. We have been working constantly to fulfill our Thanksgiving and late November orders. But I did find a small window of time to design 2 new Thanksgiving cookies using's Amazing Cupcake Cutter. The Indian and of course a Turkey! Lots of fun to do....

Cookies for another Home Party

It has been the month for home parties. This platter was for an Initials Inc party. The handbags matched one of their designs and the hostess requested red heels to go with them!

Favors for a CAbi Home Party

These were styled after the logo for CAbi which is like a tupperware party at your house but for clothes.....

Pirate Ship Favor

A pirate theme for young Austin turning 5. I thought I would try outlining in black first (I usually outline after the cookie is iced). I learned that the icing used for flooding needs to be a little thicker than the base I usually use, as I did notice some bleeding, but not too much. I think it work out well for  this design.

Baby Owl Onesies

I had done this design last year when someone contacted me saying my picture came up in a Google search. This is a great design for those parents-to-be who are waiting for their arrival to see if they have a boy or a girl. On this design, I always let my white base dry for 2 days before adding the chocolate brown which is little thicker than my base consistency. I just add a little more sugar to absorb some moisture to prevent bleeding. I did the same with the pastels so they wouldn't absorb any brown while drying.

Meet Wolfette

I love Halloween and especially love when I am invited to collaborate on new designs for! I had searched high and low and couldn't find a werewolf cutter that would make a great favor or gift cookie. Well I had made several styles, but I love the dress on this female werewolf!

Ambler Farm Day 2011

Our family is a big supporter of Ambler Farm our local town farm. Both of my boys are apprentices there. Ambler Day is their big annual fundraiser with fun for all ages. Here is my oldest Sam who is a mentor Apprentice this year riding around the morning before the festivities started:

Benjamin my youngest is enjoying his first season working on the farm. He was in charge of helping with the Apple Sling Shot a big favorite activity every year:

And then there is my honey doing tractor rides throughout the day. He had fun, but the exhaust trailing into the cab really got to him by the end of the day. But a good time was had by all:

And finally the cookies I designed for the bake sale were 2 new designs this year. First of all I decided to make a chocolate dough. While I love the taste, I use Ghiradhelli Cocoa (Yum) it is not as easy to roll as my usual sugar dough. First was a leaf cookie. Believe it or not I have never done a feathered border before. I am happy with the results and will definitely be using this design again:

I wanted to do a Halloween design for the kids and I had this large 6-inch ghost that I thought would be fast and easy. But just doing eyes and a mouth looked too boring so I played around with the words "Ambler Farm" to see how I could make it fun and this spider seemed perfect!

So a good time was had by all, and the fundraiser was a BIG success!

My Grim Reaper

My 14 year old son said I needed to add some "older" Halloween designs this year. I guess he didn't want the witch's hat and Frankenstein! So I found a picture I liked and sent it over to to make me a custom cutter. Well here is the final product and my son gave me the "thumbs up"...

Boy or Girl?

This platter was for the recipient of the Autism Fundraiser Auction donation. Sometimes I find "simple" harder to do than a more detailed design LOL! But this gave me an opportunity to use my mini pacifier cutter and I love adding some minis in the center of a platter for those who don't want a whole cookie...

September 24, 2011

I love this scalloped rectangle cutter, I have used it for a backdrop for so many designs. My latest is "The Snake"....something about young boys and snakes! Hunter was having his party at a local nature center and requested a brown snake on his cookie. With all the humid, rainy weather we have been having in the Northeast, I decided to let the white base dry for 2 days and it worked wonderfully to prevent any bleeding from the brown and the green border.

Halloween Cupcakes

Another new cutter designed with I am so in love with this cutter. I have so many drawings for it.....a clown, Santa and of course a double swirl combo. But for now since I am working on Halloween....a Jack-O-Lantern and Ghost...

Ugly Pumpkins

I love working on new designs with, especially for Halloween. This is the first of several new cutters this season, the "Ugly Pumpkin". I have older children now, so requests are coming in for scarier Halloween cookies! I was looking for a new shape as well to get away from the traditional pumpkin and I think we found it! It seems you can draw a design until you think you have nailed it only to get down to the last one and realize it needed something more. I think the Black Sugar Pearls helped achieve the look I was going for...

Erlenmeyer Flasks

These Erlenmeyer flasks are for a chemistry teacher. I came across this cutter in a Wilton Halloween 3-pk I ordered from Amazon along with several others. This is a great size for platter cookies or wrapped with another cookie or two as a favor.

September 7, 2011

Zebra Lingerie

This is my first time doing zebra stripes believe it or not! I don't know if it is because I am a Libra and I have a hard time becoming "unbalanced" with random designs LOL!. I started going across horizontally, but couldn't find "my groove"? So I finally went vertical and the stripes seem to fall in place. The bras were garnished with sugar pearls, just to add a little something more.

Firetruck Birthday

A firetruck favor for Andrew's 4th birthday party scheduled for Sunday August 29th. We all knew our area was a target for Hurricane Irene, but tried to keep good thoughts for Andrew. I decided to make some extra cookies with fire hydrants so Andrew would have some cookies to eat on his birthday. And yes sadly the party was cancelled as were a lot of activities due to the massage power outage in Connecticut and the East Coast. This is our first day with power back on and hoping Andrew's party is coming up soon : )

Birthday Invite Favors

This weekend I had 2 orders to replicate themes on the birthday invites. First was a water party and this was the invitation (had to take picture off computer screen and changed the color yellow)

The other invite had a hippo on it and I made a cutter from one of those kits I ordered from Foose Cookie Cutters. Again the colors are off as my scanner was out of order, so I snapped a picture instead.

Queen for a Day!

Birthday Favors to celebrate a 90th birthday. I used gold and ivory for colors and sugar pearls for decorations. I am sure she will feel like a queen on her special day!

MathNerd Ninjas

An order placed by a Florida school teacher. She works with MathNerds and said Ninjas were their mascot. She gave me this photo and here is what I came up with...

Ivory Wedding Gown

The sister of the bride requested an ivory gown with a pearl sash to match the bride's wedding gown. Emerald Green lettering to match the wedding party colors.

Wedding Cakes

A request for peach flowers and "Tiffany Blue" for this wedding cake favor. The peach flowers for the cake were suppose to be variegated, but the extreme heat and humidity that plagued the east coast last week was a problem. Drying took much longer and the darker color peach seemed to soak into the lighter color peach. Note to self, no variegated flowers in July and August!

Summer Fun Collection

Finally finished designs for's newest cutters: Ducky Swim Ring, Shovel & Pail, Snorkel and Swim Fins cutters. I already had the swimming trunks and bathing suit which made a great collection all together. It is our turn to bake in the Northeast with extreme heat &  humidity, so I thought this collection might cool us down a little.....

Benjamin's Favorite Nurse

I have been trying to make an order of these for a while to give to our favorite nurse at the Drs office. Leslie has been so understanding of my youngest's fear of needles and takes such good care of him with the special numbing spray and cream. Benjamin's physical tomorrow and he is getting 4 shots : (
I found the cutter at eMedDecore

Thank You Gifts

I never seem to have time in between orders to do "Thank You" cookies for people in our life. This weekend was Benjamin's SummerStage performance of "Jungle Book". Well I has some scalloped rectangles left from my "Baby Feet" order (below) outlined in mint green. I tried to mimic the font on the book and then added another outline in a darker green and added some jungle leaves. Some paw prints on scalloped rounds and we were good to go!

Happy 2nd Birthday Courtney

A fun theme for a little girl's birthday. I use to do the mane and tails with a #1 tip, but that became too time consuming. So I used a #16 star tip with thicker icing and it worked great!

July 14, 2011

"Baby Feet" Shower favors

The request was for a baby shower favor. We didn't know if Emily is having a boy or girl, so we decided on lavender, mint green and lemon yellow. The mother-to-be also was not including any animals to the shower them, so I decided there is nothing cuter than newborn's feet! Cutter and easel  from

Happy 4th of July!

This year's 4th of July platter. Brushing Super Gold Luster Dust to the candle flames and the flagpoles added just a little more "pop" to the platters.

Happy 50th Birthday to Brian! Personalized patriotic hearts and "50" on the candles made for a double celebration during the 4th of July weekend.

Mary Kay Pink Cadillacs

Favors requested for a Mary Kay celebration. The person who ordered is a director and does have her own Pink Caddy! I did paint the wheel hubs, door handles "Mary Kay" in NuSilver Luster dust.

These were additional favors for her "Starfire" group award recipients. On these favors I just brushed on the luster dust for a sheen effect.
